Perched on a sunny terrace above the Lauterbrunnen Valley at 1,274 metres, this five-star grand hotel sits in one of the most dramatic settings in the Swiss Alps. The village is entirely car-free – you arrive by a 12-minute cogwheel railway from the valley floor – and the views from the hotel take in the Jungfrau, Eiger and Mönch peaks. It's the kind of arrival that immediately shifts the energy of a group.
Originally built in 1912, the hotel has been meticulously restored and reopened as the village's first five-star property. The original Art Nouveau and Heimatstil details have been preserved – handcrafted carpets, custom pine furniture, wood panelling, serpentine green bathrooms – while the rooms and shared spaces have been brought up to a polished contemporary standard.
There are 90 rooms and suites across two connected buildings, ranging from 20 to 37+ sqm, many with direct views of the Jungfrau. For larger groups, the hotel can be fully privatised, or teams can take over one of the two buildings independently – one with 36 rooms, the other with 54.
For meetings and workshops, there's a 90m² event space with natural light and mountain views, suitable for seminars of up to 80 people or larger banquet-style gatherings of up to 180. The hotel's team can adapt the setup to suit presentations, workshops or boardroom-style sessions.
The spa is one of the hotel's real highlights – inspired by Japanese onsen design, it's built in a minimalist brutalist structure that blends into the surrounding gardens and forest. Facilities include four treatment rooms, a sauna, hammam, heated indoor/outdoor pool, cold plunge, and a relaxation room looking out at the Jungfrau. Yoga and pilates sessions can also be arranged.
There are two restaurants on site – a brasserie serving inventive mountain cuisine with an Art Nouveau-accented dining room, and a lounge and terrace with wood-fired grills and lighter alpine dishes facing the peaks. A bar with a more intimate, late-evening feel rounds out the evenings. The kitchen works with seasonal, locally sourced produce from within a 100km radius.
Beyond the hotel, the surrounding region offers plenty for active groups – e-bike hire, paragliding, hiking, canyoning, rafting and kayaking in summer, plus skiing, sledging and snowshoeing in winter. For something more cultural, Lake Thun and several museums are within easy reach.
